The Open University of Israel has unleashed a new trial, where students will receive Bookware's E-Reader, a Kindle and iPad like device, which will substitute traditional textbooks. The E-Reader's functions provide students with highlighting, indexing and fast search capabilities, which may prove themselves very useful.

University of Tokyo, Japan. A system developed by lab members Takashi Nakashima and Yoshihiro Watanabe, lets you scan a book by rapidly flipping its pages in front of a high-speed camera. They call this method book flipping scanning. According to Automaton blogger Erico Guizzo, they can digitize a 200-page book in one minute, and hope to make that even faster.

The University of Tokyo is developing a Project-Natal-style interface for mobile phones, which allows you to interact with a phone by waving your finger around. Members of the Ishikawa-Komuro Lab have used a high-frame-rate camera to track the motion of a finger and recognise input gestures. The touchless interface can be used to navigate around a phone's screen and even to type.

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to run any code on their devices, as opposed to only that code authorized by Apple. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, as well as illegally pirated apps. A jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch is still able to use and update apps downloaded and purchased from Apple's official App Store. Will you be jailbreaking your iPad?
