Lenovo to Compete with Apple with New Lenovo Android-Powered Lepad

Clearly glancing at the sales figures of Apple's colossal iPad, Lenovo has just announced plans to ship a tablet PC before the end of this calender year. The Chinese company is hoping to make a hit in its home country, before spreading out to the rest of the world.

The biggest difference between the new Lepad tablet and Apple's iPad is clearly the operating systems. iOs runs the iPad, and the LePad is going to be running Android. This is essentially the difference between running Windows and Macintosh. Apple favors a closed ecosystem, with a locked in feature set. Android excels because it is open-source, meaning everyone can edit the system and make it better.

Both companies seem to have a similar strategy by releasing the iPhone and the Lephone respectively to test out their markets.

Lenovo has a leg up in mainland china where you still can't even purchase an iPad. Local buyers seem to gravitate towards Lenovo as a local company of choice, so Lenovo expects to break into the market in a big way.

As far as the specs go, Lenovo is still tight-lipped. We can expect similar specs to Apple's iPad. Perhaps, given the later release date, we should expect a few goodies that even the iPad doesn't have.

The race for the tablet market is heating up, with other new items such as the Notion Ink Adam entering the fray. What the Notion Ink Adam has that Lenovo Lepad and the Apple iPad don't is a Pixel Qi screen. That mean's it is much easier on the eyes and substantially better battery life. However, the Notion Ink Adam is still lacking funding and a firm release date.

Excitement is definitely building for Lenovo and it's new product, and most of the tech world is waiting for any more information that they will drip-feed us with.
