With the recent release of the iPhone 4 many people are wondering if the iPhone 4 is now the best phone on the market. A large number of mobile phone fans give that title to the Nexus One from Google until now. So lets quickly compare to determine which phone is better; iPhone 4 or Nexus one.

The iPhone 4 has some great technical specs but rather than go into yet another spec sheet list I will talk about the most important features that set the iPhone 4 apart. First and most obvious is the new display screen that Apple calls the retina display. This display has an amazing 960x640 resolution at 326ppi. What this means in English is that the iPhone 4 has a display that is sharper, more vibrant and more beautiful than any other phone on the market bar none. It also has a front facing camera for video chat as well as a 5 mega pixel rear facing camera with a flash and HD video recording capability. The iPhone 4 has 16 or 32 GB of storage internally and runs on the iOS 4 that now includes multitasking, folders, and a unified mail account system.

The Nexus one is also an impressive device. Strangely the spec sheet for the two devices are very similar as they have comparable battery life, processor speed, camera capability, maximum storage and screen size. The Nexus One also has a beautiful display that is only 800x480 but uses AMOLED technology to provide more vivid colors. What really sets the Nexus One apart from the iPhone 4 is that is uses the open Android operating system. This allows users of the Nexus One to have access to a much more versatile development community for Apps. The phone is also unlocked so it can be used with any carrier and it is this freedom of choice that most Nexus One users list as the primary reason they choose the Nexus One over the iPhone.

The choice between the Nexus One and the iPhone 4 is really a more a choice between philosophy of how you want your mobile phone company to interact with you than a choice of hardware. If you want a tightly controlled but highly enjoyable experience then the iPhone 4 is for you. If you prefer a more open choice, and are willing to trade a slightly less polished user experience for that, then the Nexus One is your baby.
