3D Here To Stay

| Jun 23rd, 2010 | by EditorJames Cameron's Avatar is the number one movie for one reason alone, 3D. Unlike other movies that appear in 3D Avatar did not use it for special effects. Cameron used 3D to create the luscious backgrounds on Pandora that we all came to love. Instead of the usual flash effects it was like we were looking directly into a real world. Since Avatar's release last winter the demand for 3D has sparked a technology explosion to meet the demands of consumers.
Sony has already been making headway into 3D by supporting their Playstation 3 with 3D support. Currently there are a few games that use 3D. Sony also has started selling TVs that will support both 2D and 3D. Unlike past companies that had tried to invest in 3D television, Sony's Bravia HD3D TVs have a market and are affordable to middle class consumers. Starting at about $2,000 the price is expected to drop.
Even Nintendo wants to expand into the 3D market with their new 3DS. There is something special about the new 3DS, it is going to use no special glasses to simulate effects. Instead of being a continuation of the DS series, it will be an entirely new piece of hardware. It will have a more powerful processor to handle the graphics which in turn will be much more detailed than past products.
Also there has been much talk about 3D laptops. These mostly show promise with gaming since most people don't need a 3D word processor. These systems will use Nvidia's 3D Packaging. This feature is mostly for high powered laptops that have a powerful processor. These laptops will run about $1900.
The use of 3D in entertainment is likely to explode in the home entertainment and gaming market. It is safe to say that 3D is here to stay.
