The New Apple iPhone 4

The Apple iPhone 4 is the newest edition of Apple’s popular smartphone, announced on June 7, 2010, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference by Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. He touched on 8 of the key new features that make this iPhone unique and updated from the current iPhone 3GS model, and stressed on the cutting edge technology and design that went into the latest model.

The new design of the iPhone features aluminosilicate glass technology and a special alloy stainless steel band that doubles as the antennae for the device as well. It has a sleek and sophisticated style coupled with durability in mind. The new model is just 9.3 mm thick, making it the thinnest smartphone in the world. The new Retina display features a highly advanced 960x640 resolution with 326 pixels per inch, which is more pixels than the human retina can detect, making it the highest clarity screen available. The new model also features a new 5MP camera with LED flash, and a forward facing camera, allowing for video calling capabilities that Apple refers to as FaceTime. The video recording device is capable of capturing HD videos in 720P and at 30 frames per second with audio. A couple other new features of the iPhone 4 include dual mic’s for noise cancellation optimization, and a multi-touch display.

The new Apple iPhone 4’s competition upon release will mainly be the HTC EVO 4G, the Nokia N8, the Palm Pre Plus, and the HTC HD2. While the competing phones can in some areas do some things better, such as the 12MP, xenon flash, camera available on the Nokia N8, overall the iPhone has the highest overall package when comparing screen resolutions, battery life, and design dimensions.

The new Apple iPhone 4 is scheduled for sale to the public on June 24, 2010, and will cost $199 for a 16GB version or $299 for a 32 GB version, with contract purchase through AT&T or phone upgrade eligibility.
