Is the Notion Ink Adam a True iPad Rival?

| Jun 14th, 2010 | by EditorThe Notion Ink Adam tablet is set to be released to the public this June or July. The product has been compared to the iPad and features a 10 inch transflective screen, camera, long lasting battery, Wi-Fi ability, and lightweight slim design.
So, how does the Notion Ink Adam tablet compare with its rival the iPad? The Adam features a 10 inch transflective LCD screen, while the iPad features a 9.7 inch LCD. The iPad features an Apple A4 processor while the Adam tablet features dual core 1 Ghz and graphic. The Ink Adam tablet uses Firefox while the iPad uses Safari for browsing.
The iPad does not feature a built-in camera while the Adam features a camera with autofocus. Battery life is another feature that many laptop / tablet users are concerned about. The iPad claims that users have up to ten hours of use on the battery. Adam users are promised to receive 16 hours of battery life or up to 160 hours with the backlight off mode. Both tablets are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth able.
Weight between the two products is similar. The iPad weighs in at 1.5 pounds while the Ink Adam weighs in at 1.7 pounds. Another deciding factor for some consumers is price. The iPad generally runs around $500.00. The Adam is expected to run between 400 and 800 dollars.
Some unique features for the Adam are that the trackpad is located on the back of the tablet. This will require some getting used to for regular laptop users. Notion Ink promises that this will be an easy transition once users are used to the new location. Another feature is that the Adam's camera can be rotated from the front of the tablet to the back of the tablet. This allows for picture taking from various angles. Adam users will also be surprised at how clear the screen looks in sunlight. It is common for LCD screens to become harder to read when sunlight is introduced, but the Adam adjusts to make the screen easily read even in direct sunlight.
Many tablet enthusiasts are anxiously awaiting the release of the Adam tablet, but many will have to wait until November. The reason behind this? Some investors thought that there would be more success with an introduction closer to the holidays. Others think that continually pushing back the release date will annoy customers, perhaps making the Adam unsuccessful.
