The NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform combines a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, with a clock frequency of 1GHz, with NVIDIA graphics capable of handling multimedia files in HD format. This means that the Adam can play video in high definition, a capability that can be easily taken advantage of thanks to the built-in HDMI output. The device also has three USB ports, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera and wireless connectivity capabilities through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G (HSPA/GSM). The Notion Ink tablet also boasts an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor and an accelerometer.

Loads and loads of gr8 features which we cannot ever see in ipad ..!!!! Or any device at that price $300-340..!!!!!!!!

Apple products are always lower-spec than similar-priced competition. They are made so your grandmother can use them. I am not a sheep, I demand value for every dollar I spend, and won\'t live in a walled garden.

imho the adam tablet isn\'t a rival to the iPad. But it doesn\'t even demand for that. iPad is for apple fanboys. Adam is for everyone. So for me the Adam is... far superior! "improved version of the iPad" would be an insult to Notion Ink!

"Tablet" infers that it is a touch screen laptop. Android is much closer to a a workable desktop OS than Apple\'s toy OS will ever be...plus the possibility of running Ubuntu....

It has what the iPad needs. If they get the design of the thing right and the OS clear, ergonomic and fast, then I will for sure buy a Notion Ink ADAM.

Having both a backlit LCD mode and a ePaper-like mode make it more viable as a book reader and an entertainment / computing platform.

Camera, USB, Flash, upgrade memory, apps that are not stupid, Google, multi-tasking speakers, ect. I am in love with this thing!

With the option for an ereader screen I can double up on devices and get rid of my sony. Also I want to use this as a tool for homeschool and without flash support or the ability to save downloaded files (not sure if the adam has this either) the ipad is pretty useless. While I love the smoothness of apple devices the Adam has definitely caught my eye. I just hope it comes out soon.

cause of the transreflective Display, so you can read without backlight and in bright sunlight!

The features, the price, the battery life, the display, the track pad on rear, multi-tasking and so on...

The specifications and the fact that the iPad is proprietary to Apple and is designed to be upgraded regularly (greedy or what?) just to have the same as the competition, look at the iPhone. The iPad does not have a camera, it is not true multi-tasking and you cannot add additional peripherals via USB as you can with any other tablet PC out there.

That parts I read about this device sounds much better than that from the iPad! An I like the design too :D

Guest

simple it many extra features then ipad, like usb ports and hdmi port. Also the lcd gets adjusted to the sunlight exposure for clearer vision. And also one more great add on is the open source SDK.Just love the idea.

I will never buy an iPad, for the very least I need to be free to write my own applications and I run Ubuntu, so iPad is ruled out without any doubt.

Massively better battery life, innovative screen, can be used outside, anti glare, not locked into the awful itunes store, has a camera, has usb... seriously, this is pretty obvious stuff.

Guest

It has many usb ports, its open source, it runs android, and it turns from FULL COLOR to EBOOK with the click of the button! If anything, its definitely going to murder the iPad.

Guest

In the general public I don\'t know if it would be considered a rival, but in my mind, and in regards to the specs, it is an improvement.

The android OS and development of apps for it hasn\'t been hog-tied by limiting what products developers use to produce apps for the system. On top of that, Notion has actually listened to what people actually are asking for rather than them dictating it to us as other companies have... *cough* apple *cough*....

To me, among other strong points, there is one key: Notion Ink Adam is the only tablet known to use Pixel Qi screen. I played a bit with iPad recently, and while it\'s an excellent device, I found that it cannot really compete with specialized e-Book readers like Kindle, etc. in providing really comforting book reading. LCD screen with a noticeable pixelation is not a good device to read books. Pixel Qi screens, on the other size are expected to rival e-Paper in quality.

Guest

LCD is outdated

Guest

posted Apr 11th, 2010 at 13:26 CDT

Notion Ink Adam is better than iPad in the following criteria: Screen type (readable outside), Screen size (bigger than iPad), price (lower, as far as we know), dimensions (thinner), weight (less), built in 180 degree camera (versus none for the iPad), power efficiency (more battery time than iPad), GPS, Bluetooth (this one has A2DP, which some of us actually care a lot about) and so on.

Guest

posted Apr 9th, 2010 at 21:47 CDT

People who actually put in time to look into the Adam and see how many advantages it has over the Apple\'s iPad will wait for it like I am and not be sucked into the iPad because it is "Apple". I\'m sure Android cannot be too bad.

It is not an "improved version of the iPad". It is better in many ways. Although Apple have their name to work with, the ADAM definitely has an upper hand in terms of peripheral device connectivity and flash compatibility. The screen and battery are also huge selling points. Personally, I would wait it out till competitive applications for Android are developed.

Mainly multitasking. Though when you add the true HD, HDMI output, USB ports and camera will just add a ton of functionality that you won\'t get with the ipad.

The i-Pad lacks hell lotta features. Add to it the latest news..A JailBreak thru the Web-Browser. On the other hand, ADAM is More than you can Xpct..Much More actually Everythin on this Thing simple RoXXXXXX:) M sure it ll take the world over by a Roar wen it\'s actually launched:)

Notion Ink is not at all into marketing. they even have not declared the estimated dates and price and features of the device. all they do is leak out some screens of Adam once a month and that\'s all. Its fate is heading the Palm Pre way! all buzz but no buy!

It\'s more a statement on Apple\'s utter failure to offer anything close to compelling. The iPad is just not enough on it\'s own and the Adam looks like the device offering everything the iPad should have.

Guest

Combines the best of an eReader and a tablet PC. Also, Android gives more PC-like functionality ie. multi tasking; has camera, has 3 USB ports and a less restrictive policy towards installing software, better battery life, rear touchpad is a stroke of genius. The iPad is just bland in comparison.

In terms of hardware, the Adam is a more functional product. The screen is much more usable, although I would have preferred a slightly higher resolution screen. The UI is a bit of an unknown right now. I do hope they get it right, it's a lot to ask of a start-up with their first product.

I really hate to say "an improved iPad" because Apple was nowhere near first to market with tablet devices. However, I think it will be much better positioned than the iPad to be an optimally useful device to fill the gap between a handheld and a laptop/desktop.

Guest

The iPad is an overprice, unapologetically limited piece of hardware which serves no new market well.

Camera, USB ports, Flash support. I can\'t believe the iPad doesn\'t have any of those, and I wouldn\'t buy a tablet without them. Plus the Adam has the option to run Ubuntu Linux, which I\'d prefer.
